Ondo: I didn’t call for Workers’ Retrenchment —Ifedore LG Boss, Oladimeji

By: Oluwatosin Adesola

…..I was misquoted.

Sequel to a media where allegedly claimed that only 30% local government workers are coming to work in Ondo state, the Executive Chairman of Ifedore local government, Engr Alex Oladimeji has declared that he was misquoted over his comment on the workforce.

Oladimeji who spoke with newsmen on telephone, insisted that he did not call for the Retrenchment of workers as he had family members and friends who are working in the local government system and he could not have demanded a rightsizing.

“I was misquoted on 70% workers’ absentieem in the report.”

It was alleged that Oladimeji had remarked on an OSRC programme on Friday morning that, “You know I will say it the way I see things, I will not lie to you, our people don’t come to work, only about 30% of them come regularly, absentism is common. We are trying our best to correct such trend but their ogas (directors/HODs) in the office shield them; they don’t report them for disciplinary actions.”

However, the Council Boss said the report misrepresented what he meant, noting that would not do anything against the interest of local government workers.

Oladimeji noted that he would not say anything that would jeopardise his smooth working relationship with his workforce and robust friendship with labour unions in the state especially NULGE and the NLC.

He appealed to all stakeholders to disregard the comment credited to him as he was totally misquoted, blaming his political enemies for the circulation of falsehood against him in the media.

He explained that he only advised workers to be more dedicated to their duties.

Oladimeji said he had admonished the workers of his own local government to take their job seriously, adding that 18 local government chairmen are working hard to ensure that execute people’s oriented projects.

Oladimeji said his administration was paying greater attention to agriculture for the empowerment of his people.

My attention has been drawn to a statement credited to me while I granted a Personality Interview at OSRC last week released today while the Funeral of My Beloved Mother is in progress.

The Statement that, “only 30% of Ondo State Local Government workers go to their offices” is not my intention rather a twist and misinterpretation of my interview . Let me categorically state for the records, I am a friend of the Labour Unions and would not make such injurious statement. Certainly, I was quoted out of proportion.

As an ardent supporter of the Arakunrin Odunayo Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN led administration that prioritizes workers welfare, same is my thrust, propagation and hallmark which is the bane of job security for Ondo State Local Government Employees.

In view of the above, I call on the general public and particularly the entire NULGERIANS of Ondo State to disregard the alleged statement. It is at the instance of my political adversaries meant to smear and vilify my person to an head-on- collision cause with the Ondo State Local Government Employees.

Thank you as I expect your massive turnout at the continuation of my mother’s funeral tomorrow.

Hon.(Engr.) Alex Akinyele Oladimeji,

Executive Chairman, Ifedore Local Government.
