Ondo 2020: How Jegede orchestrated neglect of projects in Akure under Mimiko —APC

By: Ade Adeleke

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ondo state chapter has accused the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, of allegedly orchestrating abandonment of some projects in Ondo central senatorial district and Akure in particular when he served as a Commissioner for Justice and Attorney general under the last administration of Dr Olusegun Mimiko.

In a Press Statement, the ruling party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, also lambasted Jegede for insinuating that governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu embarked on a phony project in respect of the overhead bridge built at Ore as reckless and perfidious.

Ore Projects Expedient To Economic Boost-Ondo APC

We viewed with disgust the conservative partisan claim of the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, in which he insinuated that governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN embarked on a phony project in respect of the overhead bridge built at Ore as reckless and perfidious.

His reference to education as an area on which the government should have spent the fund for the construction displays his lack of adequate knowledge of how government is run; as governance must touch the life of its people in different areas of need.

The Ore interchange bridge is one of the ways government strives to reduce traffic lockdown and the rate of vehicular accidents which, very often, claim the lives of our people around the area. To save life is priceless, while the benefit of that interchange to the daily life and the economy of our state are not easily quantifiable.

We wish to advise Mr Eyitayo Jegede to do his findings before committing himself to wild submissions as the government of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has improved the standard of education tremendously since he attained the office of the governor of Ondo State.

It is pitiable to hear Mr Eyitayo Jegede condemn such expedient project as it was on record that he ‘chairmaned’ the Committee that recommended it for the previous administration of the PDP to undergo the construction of the Dome, but terminated the construction of the ten thousand capacity New Stadium, Owena Water reticulation projects and several other projects embarked on by the administration of Dr. Olusegun Agagu, thereby shortchanging the interest of our youths, majority of the indigene of the state and, particularly, his people in Akure for a white elephant project that allowed him and his boss personal benefits.

The good people of Ondo State would recall that Mr Eyitayo Jegede was the Chairman of the State Tenders Board during the Olusegun Mimiko administration. The Board was never productive in any way as its activities were far from following due process.

In real term, the Ore town interchange bridge and the Ondo Lynl industrial hubs, the both, at Ore town are projects that would touch the lives of the people of the state and the immediate community of location based on the frequency of use, economic transactions and landmark infrastructure more than a Dome that does not touch the life of the people in much productive way as mentioned herein.

While we wish the PDP candidate well in his mission to contest the governorship seat of the state, as that was the basis for his attack on the person of the governor and the present administration, we should be quick to remind him that he who lives in a glass house should not throw stones as records of the activities of the government he served for eight years and in which he played prominent roles went as far as to commit the state to a huge debt of over 220 billion naira.

As well, there was the seven months salary arrears of the civil servants- those ignominious and callous acts are still fresh in the mind of the people.

The present path of recovery, growth and infrastructural development of the state that Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has started, would not be allowed to be derailed by the same people who put us into such mess as rightly highlighted herein, Godwilling.

Steve Otaloro
Director, Media & Publicity
APC, Ondo State.
