COUNCIL POLL: SDP CANDIDATE BACKS APC IN ESE-ODO

Ahead of Saturday’s council election in Ondo State, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Engr. Gbenga Iji, has withdrawn from the race.

Iji, who was accompanied by the Director-general of his campaign Organisation, Engr. Adadire Cosmos, declared support for the All Progressives Congress (AP”C) candidate, Hon. Folawe Sipasi-Aluko.

Iji announced his withdrawal on Thursday at the APC secretariat in Akure, Ondo State capital, citing the sterling performance of the APC-led government, and popularity of Aluko in the local government area as his reason.

He commended the ruling party for being accommodating and conscious of the yearnings of the people. “You have been very tolerant and civil in you approach to electoral matters”, he added.

Responding, the APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, applauded the courage of the SDP candidate, and assured him that he would not regret his action.

Adetimehin said the APC put forward some of it’s best materials, in terms of political experience and exposure, so that they, upon election, could add value to their various localities.
