Ondo 2020: Choice of Gboye as Agboola’s ZLP running mate attracts jubilation

Reports indicate that there was a jubilation galore among members and faithful of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) across the length and breath of Ondo State when the name of Engineer Gboye Adegbenro was reported in the media as the party’s deputy governorship candidate to the State Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi who is the governorship candidate for October 10, 2020 election.

It was learnt that ZLP members at different locations in Akure, Ifedore local government area, Ondo town and most parts of Akokoland gathered to discuss and expressed joy over the choice.

It was exclusively reported by SUNSHINETRUTH that Adegbenro had been picked by the ZLP gladiators, a choice that has been applauded as in order and ideal political calculation by the party.

Political observers posited that it’s the best decision for ZLP.

One of them, Mr Ayodele Ojo said that Gboye who is a respected Engineer and former Commissioner for Works under Dr Olusegun Mimiko’s administration, had been a loyal ally to the former Governor and ZLP who merited the slot.

Ojo described the running mate as calm and well loved personality, who would attract votes for Agboola in the forthcoming election.

It will be recalled that Olusegun Mimiko took away the ZLP senatorial ticket for Ondo central which was initially given to the Engineer in the last general election.

Just as many expected Gboye should protest his principal’s decision instead, he took it in good faith and work for his boss and remain loyal to him.

Ojo said, “Don’t forget how he was treated in the last general election, yet he remains in ZLP, he was wooed by the PDP then but he stays with Mimiko, so I think the former Governor and his party, has done well by picking him as Agbo’s running mate if it is true anyway.”

Another political analyst posited that the choice of Gboye will break Eyitayo Jegede’s jinx in Akure just as it’s believed Ifedore and Idanre are winning zones to ZLP.

Efforts to reach the soft spoken Engineer for reaction prove abortive as at press time as his mobile phone was switched off.

SUNSHINETRUTH understands that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had given 17 political parties fielding candidates in the forthcoming gubernatorial election till tuesday August 18, 2020 to effect corrections on details of candidates or substitute names of the flagbearers and their running mates where necessary.

It is expected that the ZLP will on Monday submit names of Agboola Ajayi and Gboye Adegbenro as replacements for its earlier selected candidates and running mates.
