There are strong indications that the leadership of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) may have settled for Mimiko’s former commissioner for works, Gboye Adegbenro, as running mate to Agboola Ajayi, candidate of the ZLP in the forthcoming governorship election.
Adegbenro is one of Mimiko’s loyalists who has stayed with him since leaving office in 2017.
There has been an intense lobby for the deputy governorship slot among four politicians including; the state Chairman of the ZLP, Hon Joseph Akinlaja from Ondo west and a former commissioner for Women Affairs under Mimiko, Mrs Olanisimi Odunmbaku, from Akoko North East local government area.
Also in the front seat for the deputy governorship slot were former Speaker of the state House of Assembly and former Works Commissioner, Rt Hon Taofeek Olawale Abdulsalam, from Akoko North East as well as a former Commissioner for Works under Mimiko, Engineer Gboye Adegbenro from Ifedore Local Government area
According to our source within the ZLP who preferred not to be named told SUNSHINETRUTH that, “there are about 3 candidates being considered by the national leader, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, but Gboye stands out because of the sacrifice he made to drop out of the Senatorial race in 2019 and allowed Mimiko run for the seat.
Gboye is also loved by young people and politicians across party divides.
“Mimiko is expected to brief the major stakeholders of this development this week.
