As members of the party file out tomorrow to pick its governorship candidate for October 10, 2020 election in Ondo state, the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under the National Working Committee (NWC) has been cautioned against fielding defectors as its candidates in elections.

A concerned chieftain of the party, Omolewa Johnson, in a press statement made available to SUNSHINETRUTH in Akure, notes that the party must not behave like mushroom political party that always field decampee as its candidate.

Omolewa said, “we have less than 24hrs to the Peoples Democratic Party primary in our dear state slated for tomorrow Wednesday, 22 July, 2020.

“There is no doubt that the PDP still remain the largest party in Africa, therefore, the NWC, Leaders, and all relevant stakeholders must put on their thinking cap and ensure that a candidate that has the capacity and sagacity to unseat the incumbent Governor (Oluwarotimi Akeredolu) emerged as the party flag bearer.

“The party must not behave like mushroom political party that always field decampee as their candidate.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the PDP in Ondo has competent, viable and wherewithal personalities with impeccable characters that has the capacity to unseat the incumbent Governor.

“The party must not be seen as to repeat what they did in Edo State. This will cheeping the party before the whole world and will be classified as a mushroom political party and bring disaffection among people who have laboured for the party.

“While, the party must be open to receive every body with open mind and open hand and also give everybody a fair playing ground, but there is need to be very steadfast as and allowed the new entrance into the party incubation period to acclimatize so that we can pick a viable candidate that has the capacity to unseat the incumbent and has make sacrifices to sustain the party to the level it is today.

“The next 24hrs is left for the NWC, Leaders, stakeholders and delegates to decide weather the party is willing to unseat the opposition or not.

“Wishing our great party PDP a successful primary that will produce a very viable candidate,” Omolewa opined.
