There is palpable apprehension among residents of Eshe Akoko and Irun Akoko both in Akoko north west local government area of Ondo state yesterday, as the house of an okada rider suspected to be the killer of a 13year-old girl was set ablaze by irate youths from Irun Akoko as a revenge.
The okada rider was alleged to have raped her to death in a road side bush few days ago.
The girl came to Eshe market to sell pork meat at Irun Akoko.
SUNSHINETRUTH gathered that the youths were armed with weapons, petrol and chanting war songs from Irun to Eshe, the two communities share boundary.
An eyewitness said the occupant of the house at Esuga quarters in Eshe were chased out before their belongings were set on fire.
The youths almost hijacked and attacked the police while carrying the corpse to the state specialist hospital mortuary Ikare Akoko.
It was said that police vehicle was damaged at Ogbagi Akoko by the Irun youths who wanted to forcefully take away the corpse of the girl whose mother Aina is noted for the sales of pork meat at Okease street in Irun Akoko.
A Community leader from Irun Akoko Mr Femi Oloketuyi urged stakeholders to sue for peace and allow police to do thorough investigation.
The Elese of Ese Akoko, Oba Ojo Adewumi also appealed to his people to allow peace to reign.
The monarch pleaded with the aggrieved people to embrace peace as two neighbouring towns can’t continue to fight, even as the mob damaged property in his domain which included vandalisation of two houses and a car.
Police authorities are yet to react to the incident as at the time of this report, but a source confirmed to SUNSHINETRUTH that the okada rider had been arrested by the police to assist in investigating the circumstances that led to the death of the girl who was earlier declared missing for days before her corpse was found at a road side bush between Eshe and Irun.
