……Our party may repeat 2016 mistake —former Lawmaker.

Some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state have started protesting over alleged move by powerful leaders of the party to hijack the structure and list of delegates ahead of the July 22 governorship primaries of the party in the state.

PDP held its 203 ward and 18 local government areas delegates’ congresses this week to pick delegates who will elect the governorship candidate of the party through indirect primary on July 22.

However, the protesters at Heritage Hotel, Ijapo Akure, venue of the PDP Ad Hoc results computation, alleged one of the governorship eight Aspirants and Deputy Governor of the state, Hon Agboola Ajayi of allegedly attempting to induce financially members of the panel from Abuja to replace names of the elected wards and local governments’ delegates across Ondo state.

SUNSHINETRUTH learnt that the protesters also alleged some of Ajayi’s campaign members, Dr. Kola Ademujimi, Engr. J J Ajayi and the House of Assembly member representing Idanre, Hon. Festus Akingbaso to have been at the hotel with members of the Election panel while other aspirants were locked out.

The angry party’s members were seen chanting anti-Agboola songs, threatening and calling for the removal of the party’s Acting state Chairman, Clement Faboyede over the bribery allegation.

Also, a former lawmaker from Ondo East, Hon Olusiji Akindiose posted on social media that, “there is nothing worthy in protecting ANY ASPIRANT that is FRAUDULENT. You either speak the truth or compromise it. For example, ONDO EAST (PDP) CHAIRMAN disappeared from the venue of the AFFIRMATION and could not be found till this morning.

“He took our result to an undisclosed venue where they planned to DOCTOR an agreed list in favour of Agboola. Not a person like US here will ever keep MUTE over such.

“We shall not for any reason PROTECT fraud. It is ANOTHER Jimoh IBRAHIM ibadan sabotage (of 2016 governorship primary election). Any ASPIRANT of SUSPICIOUS character must be exposed. We must not allow FAILURE via PRETENTIOUS PACIFICATION,” Akindiose said.

In a reaction, the PDP publicity secretary, Zadok Akintoye confirmed the protest but said he could not authenticate the allegations against Agboola.

Akintoye said “I didn’t see the Deputy governor at the event but i saw three other aspirants and I know the party will react at an appropriate time.”

When contacted by SUNSHINETRUTH, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Babatope Okeowo who described the allegation as untrue and useless, said the Agboola’s camp would soon react to the allegation officially.
