The President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ondo State Chapter, Comrade Taiwo Bola today distributed foodstuffs to 6,000 junior workers who are the members of the Union in the eighteen local government areas.
The Union also shared 11,600 nose masks, APEA forms and drugs to local government clinics in the council areas.
The State NULGE President who handed over the materials to NULGE local government chairmen at the State Secretariat of the Union in Akure, said the palliatives were to cushion the effects of Coronavirus lockdown on the junior members.
Comrade Bola flanked by the State Deputy President, Comrade Fredrick Akinrinlola, noted that local government workers on Grade level 1-8 were the major beneficiaries of the foodstuffs.
He disclosed that the Union had two months ago when the COVID-19 distributed 9,000 hand sanitizers to the members across the 18 local government areas and the Local Government Service Commission as part of precautionary measures against COVID-19.
The Union’s President, urged members to stay safe and obey various preventive steps listed by the government.
According to the NULGE boss, “I believe health is wealth and as part of my manifesto as the President of NULGE that is why I established clinics in all local governments, now we are distributing drugs to the clinics.
“Also as part of our welfare packages for our members, we feel that our members especially junior workers who have been at home for about three months, we need to give them these food items.
“We are sharing the items through our local government chairmen of the Union who will take it to our members who are the beneficiaries.
“We want our members to know that the (corona) virus is real and the distribution of our hand sanitizers, nose masks by us (Ondo State NULGE exco) can come in to help the staff fight or prevent the disease.
“6,000 out of our entire members will benefit from these items, we have been distributing about 11,600 nose masks. We also purchased drug for our clinics. Promotion exercise is going on, we are sending APEA form to our members for this,” Comrade Bola said.
The chairman of LG Chairmen and
NULGE Chairman for Idanre local government area, Comrade Olasehinde Adejala, explained that the gesture of the NULGE President would go a long way in reducing the suffering of junior members.
Adejala said, “we want to thank our President, Comrade Taiwo Bola for this special package, he has been reaching out to our members since the virus began, we appreciate our leaders and we will ensure the palliative items get to their members at various local government areas.”
Also speaking, the State Coordinator of NULGE Women’s Committee, Mrs Oluwaseun Oni, thanked the Union’s leadership for the humanitarian services for his members.
