Akure, the Ondo state capital standstill for several hours on Wednesday when a leading Governorship Aspirant on the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), when he returned from Abuja where he obtained his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms at the party’s National Secretariat.
Addressing his support who followed his entourage from Akure Airport road to his campaign office, on Oyemekun Road, Akure, Jegede said poor performance of the present administration of the APC led by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu had shown that the people of the state need to make the right choice on October 10, 2020 election.
Jegede flanked by some top stalwart of the PDP on the state including a former Deputy Governor, Otunba Omolade Oluwateru, noted that the people could compare and see there is a need to make the right choice this time around.
Jegede, who was the 2016 PDP governorship Candidate and lost to the incumbent, Akeredolu, expressed satisfaction with the pronouncement of the party’s national leadership that there would be no zoning of the 2020 governorship seat in ondo state, adding that the PDP constitution does not back zoning of elective positions in the country.
The governorship Hopeful who also spoke with newsmen, said he hoped to win the party’s primaries and move on to emerge victorious in the October 10 election to better the welfare of the people.
Jegede noted that, “they have now compared and seen the difference and am sure they will make the right choice. But we will continue to campaign.
“The PDP is a democratic party. We have just commenced a process that will lead us to the government house and the first thing we did was to obtain nomination form and am sure by the grace of God, we will be there.”
He also said, “we were assured at the national secretariat of a transparent and democratic primary and PDP is ready for that. By God’s grace , there will be level playing field.
“The national secretariat said there is nothing like zoning, it is not in the party’s constitution. It is not in any policy. It is just contrived by some people who want to achieve power by means rather than democratic process.
“In any case, all the time and all the while , PDP had always put its best legs forward and go and check, all PDP candidates have always emerged through primary election and this will not be an exception.
“My constituency is the entire Ondo state. It is not a section because I am not running for a senatorial election. I am running for a state election.
“We are hopeful that by the grace of God, there will be no hindrance and that the people will demonstrate their presence to the ballot.
“They have now compared and seen the difference and am sure they will make the right choice. But we will continue to campaign,” Jegede said.
