OLUMILUA’S DEMISE MARKS THE END OF A POLITICAL ERA- APC GUBER ASPIRANT, BUKOLA ADETULA
An All Progressives Congress Governorship Aspirant in Ondo State, Chief Bukola Adetula has commiserated with the people of Ondo and Ekiti states, as well as the immediate family of the Third Republic Governor of the old Ondo State, Ambassador Bamidele Ishola Olumilua, who passed away in the early hours of Thursday, 3rd June, 2020.
In a statement signed by him, Adetula described Olumilua’s demise as the end of an era in the joint political history of Ondo and Ekiti States.
He further described the deceased as a repository of wisdom and experience. In his words, “Baba Olumilua was a great man of wisdom. My first meeting with him was during my governorship campaign in 2016, although I had heard so much about him from my late father.
“I met him in his hometown, Ikere Ekiti to share my governorship aspiration with him and he dolled a great wealth of wisdom and experience to me out of his Aristotelian hat. I was amazed at his intelligence.
Adetula recalls that, “I was furher surprised when a couple of weeks later, he called on me to read his citation at a well attended award and Gala Nite where he was honoured with an award for Outstanding and Exemplary Leadership at Adegbemile Cultural Centre, Akure, Ondo State.
“It is with deep sadness therefore, that I received the news of his death this morning, as this also marks the end of a political era in our axis”
He urged the government of both States to reach out to the families of the late Governor Olumilua to give him a befitting and well-deserved State burial.
PROFESSOR TUNDE ADENIRAN, NATIONAL CHAIRMAN OF SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY (SDP) WRITES ON EVANGELIST ISHOLA BAMIDELE OLUMILUA: TRIBUTE TO AN ICON OF GENUINE SOCIAL DEMOCRACY
I write on behalf of myself, the national leadership and the entire Social Democratic Party (SDP) family in Nigeria to express our heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Ekiti and Ondo States on the passing away of His Excellency, Evangelist Ishola Bamidele Olumilua who served the old Ondo State (now present Ondo and Ekiti States) as civilian Governor under the auspices of our great party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), between January 1992 and November 1993.
The exit of Evangelist Olumilua from the stage of life is a further depletion of our national human resource. It is sad that death has drawn the curtain on the life of this great patriot at a most critical time that the country needs to continue to draw from his wealth of experience.
Arguably, he could be considered as one of the finest public servants and politicians of his time in the country’s political landscape. By his death, the nation has been robbed of an eminent political figure and iconic social democrat who possessed uncommon admirable and dignifying virtues of personal integrity, nobility of character, fecundity and elevation of mind as well as a deep commitment to public good and national development.
On account of having the privilege of close engagements with him, I can always aver that, but for the military that cut short his administration, he would have achieved monumental legacies as Governor considering his passion for development, the richness of his mind and the people-oriented manifesto of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) which he had begun to implement.
In the noticeably short time that he spent, the telling signs were already everywhere of the social transformation he was set to deliver to the people of the old Ondo State (now Ekiti & Ondo States).
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) remains proud, and will continue to be, of his record of meritorious and unimpeachable public life, especially as a Governor and Flagbearer of SDP.
His contributions to the party as one of the founding leaders and leading lights of that era remain indelible. His good name will always occupy a pride of place in the history of the SDP and in the politics of Nigeria in general.
This is wishing the entire Olumilua family and the good people of Ekiti and Ondo States the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss of Evangelist Ishola Bamidele Olumilua, an illustrious son and a great Nigerian patriot.

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF FORMER GOVERNOR OF OLD ONDO STATE, EVANG. BAMIDELE OLUMILUA BY ONDO SDP
The Ondo State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of former Governor of the old Ondo State and elder statesman, Evangelist Bamidele Isola Olumilua.
Olumilua, who was governor of old Ondo State from January 1992 to November 1993, after he was elected on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), died at the age of 80 years.
The Ikere Ekiti born politician, farmer and religious leader served the old Ondo State in line with the people-oriented progressive policies of the SDP before the military takeover of the country by General Sanni Abacha in 1993.
He surely made indelible marks on progressive politics in Nigeria and till his death was a believer in a better Nigeria, unrelenting in contributing his quota to community, state and national developments.
Our condolences to his family, the governments and people of Ondo and Ekiti States, as well as the SDP on the loss of a man who gave his best to the betterment of the society.
We pray for the family that God will grant them the fortitude to bear the loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
Hon. Oladele Ogunbameru,
SDP, Ondo State.
