…… We have some ‘Audio’ Aspirants in APC, only known on Social Media, some using elections as Business Venture every 4year
….. rejects Plan-B with ZLP or AA
As October 10, 2020 Governorship election heats up in Ondo State, governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has expressed confidence that he will secure the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the July 20 primaries of the party.
The governor declared that some of the APC governorship aspirants had no political structures to beat him to the party’s nomination, noting that he had also performed creditably in the last three and half years to secure second term in office.
The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo made this disclosure on behalf of the governor at a news briefing in Akure, the state capital at the weekend.
Ojogo explained that some of the APC governorship aspirants were only present on social media without political structures to win any contest while few others were using governorship election every four years to make money to acquire property.
The Commissioner also dismissed the threat from a group of aggrieved leaders under the APC Unity Forum, noting that their mission is altruistic and could not be united to even pick a consensus candidate.
“Is it the disintegrated group that can’t be united to pick just a consensus candidate that will be afraid at the primaries, one of them can’t resign his appointment to declare his interest of contesting.
“Our case is different at Akeredolu’s camp, we are confident of victory because of the giant strides of Mr Governor.
”Does it not sound preposterous that in a camp of very deceitful governorship aspirants or governorship hopefuls of about six or seven who cannot put their heads together that the only slogan bringing them together is direct primary. It’s laughable and that is unfortunate.
“You can’t put something on nothing. What is the basis for their clamour for direct primary? They are very irreconcilable, well contradictory, with very lethal interests against one another.
“These are people who cannot come together, to take such seriously. Amongst them are those who say they want to run for governorship but are not ready to abandon their choice appointments at the federal level. They are scared of resigning” Ojogo said.
“We want to challenge them that for anyone who wants to be governor, he must be prepared to take the bull by the horn, resign, come and campaign. Amongst them, we have seen audio aspirants who we just listen to on social media.
“Amongst them, we have seen aspirants who have made it a project or a (business) venture every four year; governorship (election) has been their project. At the end of every four years, what they do is to acquire property in Abuja.
“Their reasons for coming together are not altruistic, they are personal, very deceitful and very mischievous. So, their interests do not gel and not in the overall interest of the State.
“In the camp of Akeredolu, our case is different. We are not on the same pedestal with these persons with usually contradictory and mischief laced interests.
“But we are not bothered, but one thing is very important, we are not going to take any issue with levity, no opponent is worth being overlooked.
“We’ll not underrate any, even as we won’t be bothered by each of their antics,” Ojogo opined.
When he was asked if Akeredolu has option-B or plan-B to contest under another parties like ZLP or AA if he failed to secure the APC ticket on July 20, Ojogo said there was no plan like that, as the governor is popular enough and prepared to beat all his opponents at the primaries.
“We don’t have anything like plan-B or C, we are going into the (APC) primary to win and the real election will be won by us as well. So we only have one plan of securing APC nomination, it is only party will have and we are ready to win the July 20 primary and October 10 election,” the information Commissioner said.
