Ondo 2020: More Troubles hit APC Unity Forum, as Founding Chair Otetubi joins forces with Akeredolu

By: Ade Adeleke

Two years after instituting litigation, a founding leader of the Unity forum, a group of aggrieved leaders within the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Hon Idowu Otetubi has withdrawn suit challenging the composition of the State Executive Committee of the Ondo APC chaired by Engr Ade Adetimehin.

Otetubi also dumped the forum and returns to the party’s main fold.

Addressing a news conference today at the NUJ Press Centre, Akure, Otetubi who left the Unity Forum with his factional exco, said he took the decision in the overall interest of the party ahead of 2020 governorship election.

The press conference was attended by the state excos of the APC and the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo.

Otetubi also sought support for Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu by all and sundry to enable him continues his good works in the state.

Recalled that the secretary of the Unity group, Gani Mohammed had been appointed by governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu into his media team.

Also, the group has been in crisis since the emergence of Chief Olusola Oke (SAN) as the Unity Forum consensus governorship candidate as other five of the 10 aspirants under the group had rejected the decision.

Otetubi was the founding Chairman of the APC Unity Forum Executive that emerged at the parallel congress conducted by the Group and later filed a suit challenging composition of the Ade Adetimehin led executive.

According to him, the Unity Group later metamorphosed into the Unity Forum which was later chaired by Alhaji Alli Olanusi.

Otetubi, noted that he decided to quit the Unity Forum to promote peace and reconciliation within the APC in Ondo State.

He stated that the recent decision on consensus candidate by some leaders of the Unity Forum showed that they were not guided by altruism but self-serving interest.

Hon Otetubi noted that “the time has come for us to end this exercise in futility and halt the needless distractions that we have given to the parent-body, APC.”

Otetubi said he is politically experienced enough to determine when a battle has been deflated adding that the Party must move on and encourage the government to do more for the good people of the State.

I AM DONE WITH UNITY FORUM

Gentlemen of the Press,

l welcome you all to this all-important Press Conference. Its importance is premised on the decisions that I will announce here today which I am sure will promote peace and reconciliation within the All Progressives Congress, APC Ondo State Chapter.

The recent decision on consensus candidate by some leaders of Unity Forum has no doubt shown that we were not guided by altruism but self-serving interest. The time has come for us to end this exercise in futility and halt the needless distractions that we have given to the parent-body, APC. The unity we craved for, in a group that was propelled by sheer envy, jealousy and greed has thus far remained elusive.

In light of the above, I, Hon Idowu Otetubi, have resolved to pull out of the Unity Forum. In making this announcement, I leave no room for further negotiations on the matter.

Ahead of this declaration, as we speak, I have withdrawn unconditionally, my case in court, suit No. FHC/AK/CS/10/2019, challenging the composition of the State Executive Committee of the Party. These decisions are purely informed by my unquenchable desire for the progress of the State and the APC, particularly, the Ondo State Chapter.

I am politically experienced enough to determine when a battle has been deflated. The Party must move on and the government needs to be encouraged to do more for the good people of the State.

I will refrain myself from telling you what this administration has done in the area of road construction and rehabilitation, because it is glaring.

The agriculture sector has eXperienced an unprecedented attention and investment, under this administration than it has 9V§r recorded in the history of this State.

The intervention of government in education and health sectors are beyond compare. The attention on seaport development in the Southern Senatorial District; prompt payment of salaries, and the focus on bitumen exploration are all geared towards economic reliance for the State.

The Linyi-Industrial Hub in Ore is coming, when such companies in Ibadan, Kaduna and Benin are all out of business. To me, this is an uncommon feat, particularly, at a time the fund allocation from the Federation Account to the State is dwindling. ‘

I want to use this opportunity to call on my former colleagues in the Unity Forum to be broad-minded in their agitations and reasonable in their campaigns. We should begin to discourage erecting pillars of enmity within our own Party, APC. This will, without contention, be a gross disservice to the State chapter

It would amount to unrivalled callousness for any individual or group to allow himseIf/itself to be used to scuttle the very bright chances of Ondo State APC in the forthcoming governorship election like it happened in Zamfara State.

Gentlemen of the Press, I want to once again appreciate you for attending this conference, and your kind attention. God bless you all.

Hon ldowu Otetubi
