A former Speaker of the Ondo state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Oluwasegunota Bolarinwa, (PhD) has lambasted a PDP Aspirant vying for the governorship position in the October 10 Ondo state governorship election, Hon. Dr Bode Ayorinde, for making inciting comment on the conditions of the official quarters and offices of the 26 members of the Assembly.
In a reaction to Ayorinde’s comment, Bolarinwa said the condition of the legislators’ quarters was not as bad as painted by the former federal lawmaker.
The PDP gubernatorial Aspirant had in a Press Statement bemoaned the deplorable and pitiable condition of the official quarters and offices of the 26 members of the Ondo State House of Assembly.
Dr Ayorinde said it is appalling that those saddled with the responsibility of making laws for the good people of the state live under such terrible condition and said lawmakers deserve decent treatment by the Executive Arm of government and should be seen as partners in the business of delivering good governance to the people.
“Given the opportunity to serve as Governor of Ondo State, I want to assure the honourable members of the House of Assembly that the renovation of their Quarters will be a top priority of government,” Ayorinde said.
However reacting on social media write up, the former Speaker who is also the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the state Governor on Legislative Matters, said, “there is need to be informed before passing comments on an issue of primary concern as accommodation. The first approval that I facilitated for the members of the 9th Assembly of Progress was the renovation of their quarters before they moved in.”
Bolarinwa opined that “as a respected legislator, Hon Bode Ayorinde knows that the standard practice is that such a renovation can only be undertaken once for a Legislative Session. It is then unthinkable that an aspirant will make renovation of MHA’s quarters a campaign issue.
“HOW? Is it possible to direct renovation of MHA’s quarters without looking at the files? If it is discovered that the quarters were renovated in 2019, will you incite the MHAs against Mr Governor in 2021 to request for renovation when he begins his second term in office?
“Are you not even indicting the MHAs that they have messed up their quarters renovated just last year? The present crops of MHAs are decent individuals occupying decent residential accommodation. Rather than appeal to the collective sentiment of the Assembly members, look elsewhere to sell your governorship ambition.
“After Aketi’s eight years, another Owo folk cannot be Governor. It will be the turn of the (Ondo) Southern Senatorial District to produce Governor. Turn by turn by senatorial districts arrangement is the convention.
“Why not stop daydreaming and support your kinsman to complete eight unbroken years like Mimiko from Central Senatorial District did? This is the thinking of majority of the people of Northern Senatorial District. Join us please,” said Rt Hon Bolarinwa.
