……How Alasoadura, two ex-Speakers broker Peace.

The Ondo state Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi who has been rumoured to be in political battle with his boss, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for sometime, two days ago (on Monday) appeared at a government’s function for the first time in about two months.

The relationship between Ajayi and the Governor had been arousing suspicion for months over an allegation that the Deputy Governor is nursing and eyeing the number one seat; an allegation he had denied through several official press statements.

Ajayi flanked Akeredolu during the Governor’s weekly Press briefing on COVID-19 pandemic held at the Government’s House Ground, Akure on Monday, this week to mark his return to public functions for the first time in almost two months.

SUNSHINETRUTH exclusive checks indicate that this has been generating different reactions and political permutations on social media and different political gatherings in the last few days particularly among the loyalists of the governor and his deputy.

The alleged frosty relationship between Ajayi and his boss worsened lately when the deputy governor was fingered of sponsoring members of the state House of Assembly to probe controversial #4.3billion discovered in a Secret Account at Zenith Bank.

The situation got to a stage of some lawmakers allegedly plotting to serve an impeachment notice on the governor if his executive arm could not give satisfactory answers on the spending of the money within a week.

All these came after the intervention of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi purportedly failed to bring together Akeredolu, Ajayi and the SSG, Hon Sunday Ifedayo Abegunde.

SUNSHINETRUTH further learnt that the invitation of the deputy governor to the Monday’s press briefing coincided with the Parliamentary meeting of the state lawmakers held at the Speaker’s lodge on Monday where a resolution was passed to deny any impeachment plot against Akeredolu.

According to Hon Akogun Olugbenga Omole, Chairman, House Committee on Information, “that there was no plan to commence impeachment moves against the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN.

“There is a robust relationship between the Executive Arm Of Government and the Legislature; whatever has been planted in the media in recent times are the handiwork of fifth columnists.”

It was reliably gathered that some political gladiators such as the Minister of State for Niger-Delta affairs, Chief Tayo Alasoadura; a constitutional lawyer, Dr Tunji Abayomi and two former Speakers of the state Assembly (Oluwasegunota Bolarinwa and Victor Olabimtan) brokered peace between Akeredolu and Ajayi at the weekend in one hand at a meeting held in the Government House, Akure and the Executive arm and the legislators on the other hand.

A member of the APC and lawyer, Tolu Babaleye who is always critical of Akeredolu’s administration posted on his Facebook page, “the Master of the game himself Hon. Alfred Agboola Ajayi is back to reckoning. After all attempts to sideline this cat or is it lion with 9 lives, the Comptroller General of (the state) House of Assembly and the real Master of the (political) game and after all the coups against him has failed, the powers that be have decided to eat the humble pie in fear of looming impeachment because of 4.3BN.

“Since the beginning of the battle against COVID 19, Ondo State Deputy Governor has been sidelined.

“I could vividly remember when Oonirisa (Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi) came to Ondo State to donate Fumigation equipment, the Deputy was said to have travelled outside the State when asked for by the Ooni of Ife but the real truth is that he was in Akure but was not involve or invited to the function.

“Now that the Master of the game is back with the aim of dousing the tension generated by the 4.3BN in the House of Assembly where majority members are loyal to him, let’s see how it goes.

“Abayomi Tunji, Rt. Hon. Bolarinwa and Rt. Hon. Olabimtan did a good job to have brokered this peace. Meanwhile, I will advise Agboola Ajayi the Deputy Governor to watch his back as salutation is not love,” Tolu Babaleye said.

Feyisayo Adams, one of the supporters of Akeredolu on the social media replied Babaleye thus, “Dear Tolu, why not ask Agbo (Deputy Governor) if he has been exempted from the media briefing all along. The over ambitious young man has been busy with his unrealistic ambition.

“He once gave an excuse that he was busy in Akure with an official assignment, whereas he was on his kneels begging a PDP chieftain in Abuja to help facilitate his ambition. Aketi holds no grudge against this young dude even with the obvious.”

SUNSHINETRUTH however could not ascertain if the intervention of the political bigwigs has permanently cleaned up purported soiled relationship between the governor and his deputy or it will be a case of use and dump ahead of ahead of the October 10 governorship election; as insinuated by a facebook user, Ilawole Olugbenga who posted that “all are transient!! Arakunrin (Akeredolu) wants to use him to get the primary against Olusola Oke.. thereafter he drops him.. Just be watching the season film.”

Political events in the next few days, weeks and months on or before July 20 APC governorship primary and indeed October 10 governorship election will actually determine the political fate of the young deputy governor if he will still retain his job or not alongside Akeredolu.
