The Nigeria Union of local government Employees (NULGE), Akure South Chapter today put smiles on the faces of its members as it distributed foodstuffs and nose masks to them to cushion effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
The distribution was held at two locations namely Akure south secretariat and annex office at Arakale road in order to observe the COVID-19 social distancing.
Flagging off the distribution, the Chairman of NULGE, Akure South Chapter, Comrade Olasoji Oluwatuyi said the gesture was to reduce hardship of the members at this emergency period of the pandemic.

The Union’s Chairman also distributed face masks to their members to serve as precautionary measures against deadly coronavirus pandemic.
Oluwatuyi said the gesture was part of the Union’s sole effort to put smiles on the faces of the people during this COVID-19 lockdown, noting that the distribution of the palliative to the workers was also to help them beat the harsh economic realities.
According to the NULGE Chairman, the outbreak of COVID-19 came as an emergency and as such, individuals and corporate bodies must not wait on the government but most do whatever they can to contribute their own little quota by reaching out to the vulnerable people.
He also used the occasions to sensitize his members on various precautionary measures against deadly coronavirus pandemic.
Oluwatuyi said, “let me first appreciate the God Almighty, let me appreciate amiable (NULGE) President of ondo state in person of Comrade Bola Taiwo and let me appreciate my members and my executives for their understanding over the years.
“Fine and good we are not collecting full salary in the last two months March salary was 70% and April salary we collected 60% based on what is happening in our country.
“Although the fault is not from the state government, so that is why we gather together to reach out to our members and to make sure that there is palliatives and good welfare package for our staff so that the little we have, we can do it and to make our staff happy that is why we do this food palliatives that include beans and cassava flour (garri) with nose mask.
“My message to other comrade chairmen like me, God will provide for them to do more for their local governments so that they can easily
relieve some members. My message to members of Akure south local government, I urge them to obey to stay safe and to obey various precautionary measures, like sanitizing their hands and maintain social distancing, no gathering and lockdown is not a punishment,” Oluwatuyi said.
One of the beneficiaries and Staff of Akure South council area, Mr Iwolode Adelani Lasisi commended the NULGE Branch leadership chaired by Comrade Oluwatuyi for the gesture.
“My name is Iwolode Adelani, Infact we even appreciate NULGE leaders and those people in charge of ondo state local government service commission for what they have been doing so far.
“We appreciate government for doing their best to pay their salaries regularly; Infact I feel so happy and I believe that the entire staff are also happy, people Appreciate and everybody Appreciate what the Union and government are doing and we will continue to appreciate them.”
Also speaking, another female NULGE member, Mrs Tomike Adeniyi Adejoro, “they (NULGE Executives) are wonderful they are good because at least as at now we at local government don’t have much, we are having problem with our salary but if they can do this, kudos to them.
