COVID-19: Health Workers petition Akeredolu, threaten Strike

Unions in the health sector in Ondo state have expressed concern over what they described as failure of the state government to provide adequate personal protective kits in some hospitals in the face of the deadly coronavirus.

One of the unions leaders who spoke with SUNSHINETRUTH warned of imminent industrial action in the action if government failed to action in days time as the state lacks capable to handle upsurge in the cases of the disease.

The Unions in a petition written to the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and copies obtained from a reliable source by SUNSHINETRUTH, said that the safety kits, especially special health nose masks, hand sanitizers and hand gloves were lacking in all the hospitals in the state.

According to them, all efforts to get the attention of the government to address the challenges facing them during the pandemic Covid19 had failed hence the need to write the letters to Akeredolu.

The health workers however appealed to the state government to ensure adequate provision of the safety kits on time or they will declare industrial action.

In a reaction, The commissioner for health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro said even though the core personal protection equipment were meant for only the infectious disease hospital, face masks and hand gloves were available in all public health facilities in the state.

He noted that government was making efforts to provide face masks in abundant supply soon.

Dr Adegbenro while commending the health workers for being more proactive at this crucial period reminded them of the need to always apply the infection protection procedure to ensure that they also stayed safe.

    While they are at it…… they should remember the unimed newly employed working on credit even at this critical time where everyone needs to eat good food to build their immune system……3months arrears….. presently no March salary and April salary is not even sure…… please come to our aid it’s tiring and frustrating
