As a result of pandemic Corona Virus, the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) has directed all orientation camps be shut down with immediate effect nationwide.
The directive will disrupt the ongoing orientation camp of Batch A stream 1, across the 37 centres in the country.
SUNSHINETRUTH learnt that the directive is part of preventive measures taken by the scheme against the spread of deadly Corona Virus in the country.
A source who does not want his name mentioned told ROVING REPORTERS correspondent from Abuja that the directive to close down all Orientation camps indefinitely nationwide came from the headquarters of NYSC.
He said “we have been asked to close down all orientation camps and ask all corps members to get back to their different states pending the time when all dusts will be settled over this corona virus.
“I want to believe it is to avert anything that could endanger the lives of the corps members and the staff of NYSC.”
The scheme had on Thursday 12 March performed swearing in ceremony for the 2020 Batch A ,stream 1 corps members at all orientation camps across the country including the Ondo state camp located in Ikare Akoko.
It was further gathered that health personnel screened corps members and other persons with infrared thermometers at the point of entrance to guard against possible contraction of corona virus and Lassa fever within the orientation camps.
ONDO SCREENS CORPS MEMBERS AMIDST COVID-19
The National Youths service corps, NYSC had last week Thursday screened 1,860 corps members deployed to Ondo state and other personnel to guard against possible contraction of corona virus and Lassa fever within the orientation camp.
At the swearing in ceremony for the 2020 Batch A, stream 1 corps members at the camp in Ikare Akoko, the NYSC coordinator in Ondo state ,Mrs Grace Akpabio stated that all necessary medical measures had been put in place by the scheme in collaboration with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC ,the federal ministry of health and Ondo state government.
She allayed the fears of parents and guardians over the safety of the corps members deployed to Ondo state as the scheme would always lived to its responsibility to protect the corps members.
In a message , governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu urged the corps members to always be positive in attitude and thoughts on various challenges facing the country.
Governor Akeredolu assured the corps members of their security and welfare adding that the corps members should report to nearby health facility if their health status is threatened.
