There is a tension at Ajowa-Akoko, even as the peaceful atmosphere of the community located at Akoko northwest local government area of Ondo state is currently under threat of being truncated. This is sequel to importation of some unknown faces to the town which angered youths of the community who moved to stop the offloading of the suspected Fulani herdsmen. Ajowa-Akoko is governed by eight traditional rulers without acrimony would have been truncated yesterday by some irate youths of the community to protest against a trailer and truck loaded with the herdsmen wanted to settle in the town without any official notice.
According to the chairman, Ajowa Council of Obas, the Oloso of Oso-Ajowa, Oba Clement Omoola Jimoh said the coming to the community of such large herdsmen over 200 was an embarrassment to them and could truncate peaceful atmosphere of the area. The monarch revealed that the monarchs, elders, security agents prevailed on the youths not to take law into their hands. Another monarch at the town, the Oluro of Uro-Ajowa, Oba Timothy Ipinmoroti disclosed that Ajowa-Akoko remained one of the most hospitable communities in Yorubaland but the way the herdsmen came signalled suspicion and called for a caution.
The chairman of Ajowa Akoko community, Hon Bakare Ajayi revealed that Ajowa as a gateway town needs a lot of consciousness. “Beside the town has been battling with few herdsmen in their farms who usually used their cows to destroy their crops with also the security challenges of kidnapping in the axis. “They (Ajowa people) need to be security conscious as they saw in their luggages dangerous weapons like axes, sharp cutlasses and sword.
Reacting, One of the herdsmen simply called Issa Ahmed told SUNSHINETRUTH that some indigenes took money from them before they decided to come for settlement. The Area Commander and Assistant Commissioner of Police for Ikare-Akoko, ACP Razak Rauf on telephone chat confirmed the incident, saying police had started investigating the issue. It will be recalled that about two years ago similar thing happened at Akunu and Auga in Akoko northeast local government area of Ondo state which led to emergency meeting of Akoko Obas held at Isua.
