Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has described the death of the senior lecturer of the Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa (OSUSTECH) late Professor Gideon Okedayo, in the captivity of kidnappers as barbaric.
Akeredolu, who described the development as heinous, stated that the death of the late Professor, who was head of the university’s
Department of Mathematical Science, is a huge loss not only to the academic community, but the entire country.
Recall that late Okedayo whose body was found around the scene where he was reportedly abducted in Edo State, on Tuesday night was on his way to his hometown of Igara in Edo State before the tragic incident.
Governor Akeredolu while expressing shock at the death of Prof. Okedayo in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Ojo Oyewamide, urged security agencies to apprehend those involved in the dastardly act.
The governor also added there is urgent need by security operatives to step up strategies in order to stop avoidable killings that had pervaded the nation lately.
KILLED LECTURER: ONDO APC CONDOLES WITH VASITY COMMUNITY
The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo State has expressed shock over the killing of a don, Professor Gideon Okedayo, describing the act as wicked and inhumane.
Okedayo, a senior lecturer at Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, was kidnapped in Edo State, while on the road to Igara.
He was later murdered and dumped in the bush by yet to be identified criminals.
In a statement in Akure, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Alex Kalejaye, decried kidnapping, killing of law abiding citizens and other criminals operations, saying they are repugnant and condeminable.
He said governments at all levels would not relent in their sincere pursuit of security measures to ensure the society is made safe for all.
Kalejaye lamented, “I am sure Professor Okedayo had many plans; certainly, descending to the unknown world prematurely was not one of them. It is just unspeakable for a man who had assisted in the mentoring and nurturing of many undergraduates over the years to be so hacked to death.”
The party spokesman prayed God to be merciful to the soul of the departed don.
He described the deceased as “an amiable gentleman” that would be deeply missed by his family members and the University community, particularly in Okitipupa. He prayed God to comfort and console them.
