Deji of Akure meets Youth Minister, blames kidnapping, Banditry on Unemployment

The Deji and the Paramount Ruler of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade had restated his commitment to remain and advocate for the youths, decrying the increasing rate of youths unemployment in the country

The Monarch stated this while playing host to the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung in his Palace.

The Deji said, this is largely responsible for the prevalent rate of crime, banditry, rape, drug abuse among others.

“I had consistently advocate youth empowerment and involvement. We need to actively engage them in order to avoid this ugly trend that is ravaging our nation”.

“Let me inform you that we have de-radicalized over 1000 youths who renounced cultism through communal and traditional efforts. While we have been able to engage a handful number of them, we still need to do more to prevent the remaining ones from returning to their old ways”.

Speaking earlier, the Minister lamented the level of deteriorating state of our culture and language which is almost going into extinction.

“Your Majesty, I have travelled to many countries and I discovered that they do not joke with their traditions, culture and languages. Russia, Germany, China, India, England among others still retain all these as part of their civilization”.

The Minister said, “We are making a review of the youth policy documents to allow an active participation of youths in governance and policy formulation in the country. What we use to have in the past is like shaving the head of a man behind him”.

Dalung urge the monarch not to relent in his effort in advocating for the youths as well as using his good office to relate with government at all levels on the need for youth emancipation.

The Minister was accompanied to the Palace by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Olusola Olusade, the Ondo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Saka Yusuf, the Ondo State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Grace Akpabio as well as the Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Ministry of Youth and Sports and other Directors.

Later in the day, the minister of youth and sports development Mr Solomon Dalung has advocated workable strategies in engaging Nigerian youths in activities that would improve there lives positively and make Nigeria vibrant economically.

Mr Dalung stated this when he led a team of directors in the federal and state ministry of sports and youth development who are in the state for the lunching of the 6th national youth policy to the palace of the deji of Akure Oba Aladetoyinbo.

Mr Dalung who lamented the increasing rate of social vices,morale decadence and culture extinction among Nigerian youths and appeal to royal fathers,government organisation and private institutions to brainstorm on plans to engaged the youth and provide meaningful jobs to meet the need of high growing numbers of the youth.

In his response the Deji of Akure Oba Aladetoyinbo appreciated the technical committee for choosing Akure as venue for the 6th national council on youth development and assured his support in the propagation of culture and norms among youth in the state.

Ondo state governor Mr Rotimi Akeredolu represented by the secretary to the state government,Mr Ifedayo Abegunde noted that the state was not lagging in implementing several lives changing policies for the youth and will continue to support all works to make lives meaningful for Ondo youth.

On his part the permanent secretary Federal ministry of youths and sports Mr Olusade Adesola said the council which is the highest decision makers have put together over two hundred workable strategies to improve the lives of the Nigerian youths.

In his good will message the director general of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim who was represented by the state coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Grace Akpabio retreated the need for Nigerian youths to believe in themselves and be creative rather than been used as political thugs.

Among those who graced the occasions included the commissioner for youth and sports in Ondo state Mr Saka Ogunleye and members of the NYSC,representatives of NGO’S among others.
