No fewer than six people including a police inspector were shot dead today in Idoani in Ose local government area of Ondo state as suspected armed robbers attacked a branch of First Bank PLC located at Isewa quarters of the town.
Five people were also injured by the armed bandit while one person was arrested by soldiers.
An eye witness report that the robbers stormed the area around 2 pm in d afternoon shooting sporadically
“They blew open the bank security door with dynamite to gain access into the banking hall.” says he witness
The witness said further that some of the armed bandits escaped wit unspecified amount of money before the arrival of men of the Nigerian Army who eventually arrest one of them
Sources in the town revealed that five officials of the bank and two
customers were killed by the robbers, while one of the robbers was also shot dead by the police.
Also, it was learnt that a Police officer was killed by the robbers
during the operation which threw the town into serious tension.
Besides, many customers and officials of the bank were beating to pulp by the robbers, while efforts to avert the robbery by the police failed.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr Femi Joseph said six persons were killed in the robbery.
However, it was learnt that the armed bandits numbering six shot
sporadically into the air when they stormed the town apparently to
scare the people after which they moved to the bank.
