Ondo North Seat: Mega Party Drops Petition against Boroffice’s Victory

The Mega Party of Nigeria yesterday confirmed that it has withdrawn its petition filed at the election petitions tribunal sitting in Ondo State against the winner of the senatorial election in Ondo North, Senator Ajayi Boroffice of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Specifically, the party which had earlier filed the petition against the Independent National Electoral Commission and the winner of the senatorial election in Ondo North, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, said it was no longer interested in the case.

The MGN had earlier filed the petition against the defendants, challenging the omission of its logo on the ballot papers used for the senatorial election.

The party’s state chairman, Mr Biyi Poroye, who spoke with journalists in Akure, the state capital, said the decision to withdraw the petition came from the national headquarters of the party.

According to him, the decision to discontinue the case was borne out of the spirit of reconciliation.

He said, “I am directed to inform the whole world that the Mega Party of Nigeria has withdrawn its petition against INEC and Senator Ajayi Boroffice.

“The position of the party is that the MGN is no more interested in any case concerning the election. We have instructed our lawyer to discontinue the case.”

Confirming the development, the party’s lawyer, Mr Tolu Babaleye, said he had been instructed to discontinue the petition.

“In law, this signifies the end of the petition. I have informed the secretary of the tribunal to formally withdraw the petition,” Babaleye said.
