How four Students died Mysteriously on Mango Tree in Akure

Temitayo Oluwole, the Senior Prefect of Ijo Mimo High School in Akure, the Ondo State capital died mysteriously over the weekend after falling from a mango tree in the school premises.

A source at the school who confirmed the incident, said this is the fourth time students would be falling from the mango tree whenever they are sent by their teachers to pluck mango.

The late student, Temitayo Oluwole was said to have been sent by one of his teachers to pluck a mango after a weekend tutorial class for SS3 students.

The anonymous source said “we all came for tutorial on Saturday, after the tutorial one of our teachers asked him to pluck mango for him, it was while he was on the tree trying to pluck the mango that he fell and died immediately.

“This is the fourth time students had died after falling from that particular tree in this school, and our teachers don’t hesitate to send us to pluck mango for them, despite the danger and our cries that the tree is evil. But we can’t disobey them whenever they send us to climb the tree to pluck mango.”

A family source also said since the incident happened none of the teachers nor the principal could be reached as they have all gone into hiding, switching off their phones.

The father of the deceased, Pastor Bode Adegoke, also confirmed the death of his son, explaining that he went for a tutorial in the school on Saturday.

The bereaved father said one of his teachers asked him to pluck mangoes for him around 1:30 pm after the lesson but he slipped and hit his head on the floor.

It was learnt that the Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Mr Femi Agagu had ordered full investigations into the latest incident on behalf of the state government and ascertain teachers that were involved.

A visit by our correspondent to the school compound, there was nobody to talk to as only a man believed to a security man was on ground on Sunday evening.
