Ondo State Government yesterday distributed rice thresher machine to 10 rice production farmers group facilitated by the Fadama lll AF project, insisting that all rice in the markets branded Ondo State are 100% produced in the state.
The 10 rice production groups farmer beneficiary were from the 3 Local Government Area of the state, Akure North, Akure South and Ileoluji/Okeigbo local government area.
Report says that each groups get the machine with the full component include thresher, blower and the prime mover to power the engine.
Mr Adegboyega Adefarati, Commissioner for Agriculture, said that the gesture was to enhancing food security and wealth creation among farmers in the state.
Adefarati said that the rice thresher was to further appreciate the unrelenting efforts of farmers in the rice production which had resulted in increase in the average yield of rice production in the state.
According to him, the distribution is to brought about the consciousness that rice can be produced and packaged in the state for local consumption and exportation to neighbouring states.
The commissioner, therefore, reiterate its government commitment to continue support all externally funded and development partners geared towards improved standard of living, socio-economy growth and general wellbeing of the state.
“I therefore urge you as you receive these assets to be use them judiciously and effectively as to boost your productivity and over goal of increase income,” he said.
Mr Olusegun Odunsanya, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry said that the support of the state government to farmer had yield tremendously in term of rice production in the state.
“With our support our farmers have been able to produce rice at the 7 to 8 tonnes per hectares from the base line of 1.5 tonnes per hectares.
“I want to tell you that every rice that you see in the market that branded Ondo State is 100 per cent from our state, we are not buy padding outside the state,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr Olusiji Olatunji, Fadama State Coordinator, said that more than 500 farmers would have direct and indirect benefits from the use of the thresher machines for increase rice production in the state.
Olatunji, who explained that the machine would reduced drudgery associated with harvesting and processing of rice appreciated the state government for the payment of state counterpart fund as when due which enable the farmers to had access to the IDA fund for the procurement of the assets.
“Let me implore all the beneficiaries of these assets to make judicious use of the items. Remember that agriculture is now a business not a hobby and as such you should ensure proper use and maintenance for optimal production and increase income,”Olatunji said.
Two of the beneficiaries, Mr Aileme Francis, Chairman Alayere cluster in Akure North Local Government and Mr Mustapha Tairu, Chairman Agbedola, Ileoluji/Okeigbo Local Government appreciated state government for the support to alleviate farmer from sufferness.
“We want to thank Gov. Oluwarotimi Akerdolu because the machine is almost a grant in sense that we only paid N80,000 counterpart fund and the government paid N320,000.
