Ondo state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has acknowledged efforts of the outgoing commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General James Alilu Ataguba for successfully coordinating all the security agencies to chase out criminal especially kidnappers out of the state.
The governor who said that the state was having security issues especially the activities of kidnappers who had taken over the roads before Ataguba was posted to the state said he played a wonderful role , coordinated all the security agencies to ensure the activities of the criminals were brought down.
Secretary to the state governor, Hon Sunday Ifedayo Abegunde who spoke on behalf of the governor at a thanksgiving mass held at St Benedict’s Catholic church, Owena cantonment on Sunday described the Brigadier General as a good man who will be missed.
However, he said the state cannot stop him from moving to a place of higher calling and assignment by the military authorities. The brigadier general has been moved to the defence headquaters in Abuja.
Ataguba told journalists that he was able to make tremendous achievement in the area of security because he had the cooperation of his men and all the security agencies in the state.
According to him, it was so bad that kidnappers were so bold that they would stand on the road the way security agencies do to operate at anytime of the day.
Speaking further Ataguba said he was glad the thing has gone down because there was cooperation between all the agencies.
Earlier at the church service, the officiating priest, Rev Fr Onumajuru Chukwudi in his sermon appeal to Nigerians to seize the opportunity of this Lenten period to be better individual and give to the poor.
He said if people are fasting, the money meant for food at that time should be saved and given to the poor because god is giving a second chance for people to be better people.
He described Nigeria as a good and great country but that the people living inside it as those who need to work on themselves.
“We should stay here and build the country together.
He said also described Atagaba as a good man who had created good marks in the lives of so many people adding that the church will miss him.
Present at the church service and a luncheon later held on his behalf at the officers’ mess, Owena cantonment were all the security chiefs from Ondo and Ekiti states , Chief of staff to governor Akeredolu , secretary to the state government . the Deji of Akure, Oba Oladelusi Aladetoyinbo, some traditional rulers, the catholic bishop of Ondo dioceses Bishop Jude Arogundade, top military officers, company executives and several others.
Leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) were fully represented at the Church service while the Union on Wednesday organised a dinner in honour of the outgoing Brigade Commander.
