“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” The quotation suggests how important food can be to human existence.
This might have informed the decision of a Nongovernmental organization, GRACEGREG COMPASSION HOME to provide foodstuffs for the less privileged people in Owo local government area of Ondo state as a palliative to cushion effects of COVID-19 lockdown.
Some of the beneficiaries including 100 families in the ancient town.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gracegreg which is an Orphanage Home in Owo, Pastor (Mrs) Grace Abebi Adeniseun (nee Aruwajoye), the food items distributed to the families can take them for two to four weeks.
Adeniseun said the sharing was done in five locations in order to obey COVID-19 social distancing directive of the government.
She said the gesture was part of her sole efforts to put smiles on the faces of the people during this COVID-19 lockdown, noting that the distribution of the palliative to the indigent people was also to help them beat the harsh economic realities.
According to Mrs Adeniseun, the outbreak of COVID-19 came as an emergency and as such, individuals and corporate bodies must not wait on the government but most do whatever they can to contribute their own little quota by reaching out to the vulnerable people.
She also used the occasions to sensitize women and children on various precautionary measures against deadly coronavirus pandemic.
Mrs Adeniseun said she was sad seeing people suffering, adding that
“I feel fulfilled today when old people were appreciating and praying with tears in their eyes for our gestures.”
While also urging other well meaning individuals to take up the challenge and reach out to the needy around them, Mrs Adeseun lamented that many people are suffering in the country that need assistance especially during this COVID-19 lockdown.
Responding, some of the aged who benefitted, applauded GRACEGREG COMPASSION HOME for singlehandedly coming up with the initiative, saying it will go a long way in bringing succour to them.
