A Reputable Public Relations Practitioner and Chairman of Egbe Omo Ilaje (Akure Chapter), Apostle Henry Ojagbohunmi, has disowned a report linking him with discovery of Coronavirus case in the riverine area of the state, describing such report as mischievous and untrue.
As at today, ondo state is still free of Coronavirus as all suspected cases had tested negative.
In a press statement signed by him and made available to newsmen in Akure, Ojagbohunmi noted that the report credited to him to have confirmed cases of Coronavirus at Ayetoro coastal community a unfounded and calculated attempt to embarrass him and cause confusion.
He also lamented that the false report was also targeted at causing fear among the people of the riverine area of the state.
The Producer of radio programmes affirmed that he never discussed any case of Coronavirus as being posted by some elements on the facebook page of Ayetoro community, linking him to have confirmed a case of the virus in the town.
Ojagbohunmi described the development as an antic by some people to smear his image and ridicule his personality, saying he was not an authority in confirming cases of the diseases in the state.
He noted that government remains the only body or authority to confirm cases of Coronavirus in the state and wondered why some unscrupulous elements would link the duties to him.
He said “i am inclined to draw the attention of the Ondo State Government and the Security Agencies to a fake Facebook post, wherein it was alleged that there are confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ondo State nay Ilaje land.
“From all indications and findings, it has been discovered that the said report was not only fake, but a wicked attempt to misinform the public, create unnecessary panic, undermine and thwart the measures being put in place by the State Government to forestall the pandemic.
“It is also an attempt to smear my good image and the credible broadcast outfit they claimed I used as a medium of disseminating the information”
He however called on the security operatives in the state to unravel those behind the fake news, saying
“we hereby call on the State Government and Security agencies to track the perpetrators of these dastardly acts and bring them to justice”
Ojagbohunmi however commended the ondo state government for being proactive towards ensuring the spread of the virus in the state and said so far, and with God on our side, Ondo State is still safe of the COVID 19 virus.
