Report says explosive Devices suspected to be bomb that are being transported to other parts of the country have exploded along Akure-Owo highway in Ondo state.

It was gathered that more than 60 structures of residential houses, churches and schools were damaged by the explosion.

The blast that caused apprehension among most residents of Akure, Obaile, Eleyowo, Iluabo, Osi and environs in Ondo state, destroyed a popular church beside road, “Possibility Church”, where some people were said to have been feared killed, but 13 persons were currently injured.

The incident happened in less than one kilometer to Akure Airport.

Confirming the incident, one of the officials of the Akure Airport who preferred to speak with SUNSHINETRUTH anonymously, said “those people who are moving the bomb to the north, are still being buried on ground with their security vehicle at the scene while those at the Mission home of that church have been rushed to the federal medical centre, Owo.

“Some people are on danger list now, while some have gone (feared dead); the sound (of the blast) woke everybody around 1:00am today. God should just have mercy o.”

Report says the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Andie Undie who visited the scene with Chief Olu Falae of Ilu Abo (one of the affected villages) is on his way to the scene as at the time of filing in this report.

Here is the summary of the update as reported by an eyewitness;

“The road has been divided into two. No vehicle can go to Owo or that area today. The security agents have blocked the road. One good thing is that the students of Aina Awaw Int’l School are not in school.

“The entire buildings shattered. All must be re-roofed, The Possibility Church shattered, need total reconstruction; most buildings around were badly damaged.

“The vehicle said to be conveying the devices was damaged that argument came up on the reality. The crowd keep swelling up. People keep coming from far and near to find out what happened.

“The CP (Commissioner of Police), CO (Commanding Officer of Army 32 Artillery Brigade Akure) of the Army and d rest were having challenges dispersing inquisitive crowd; but thank God again its sanitation day, the crowd would have been something else. This is not the best but our people are not careful.

“The CP emphasized that the odour coming from the site is not good but u know the level of ignorance here. Sad…. The number of casualties yet to be determined.”

The Commissioner of Police said no casualty in the incident.

Charles Akinwon,
SA (Media & Strategy) to the Distinguished Senator

AKURE MIDNIGHT EXPLOSION -My deepest sympathies to the victims.

I have received the shocking news of a midnight explosion which occurred at about few kilometre to the Akure.

A preliminary finding shows that an Officer of the EOD unit of the Nigerian police transporting explosives to an adjoining state noticed a malfunction in the consignment they were transporting at around shasha, they managed it further out of town to the front of possibility church at eleyowo. The situation which became unsalvageable, had to be abandoned which eventually led to the detonation of the explosive device with a devastating damage.

There is no doubt that this position had been corroborated by the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Undie Adie who had since visited the scene of the blast.

Though, the number of casualties could not be ascertained now with conflicting figures flying around. However, I have been briefed of the devastating damages of buildings numbering about sixty including church and school within the area.

I wish to enjoin the police especially the EOD Department to cordon off the area for safety. They need to excavate the vehicle which had been buried as a result of the explosion to prevent any further damage.

On the other hand, I wish to quickly call on the National Emergency Management Agency and the Ondo state government to salvage the situation by coming to provide succor for people who had been badly affected especially at this critical time that we are recording success in the fight against the spread of the deadly Covid-19 virus which has brought the nation on her knees.

My heartfelt sympathy is with families that have been affected by this unexpected ugly incident.

As a responsive representative of my people, I will do everything possible to ensure that succor comes the way of our people affected by this incident.

I urged all residents of the area to remain calm at this critical period. I want you to know that my heart remains with you. May God continue to protect us all.

The people of Akure and indeed Nigerians were again jolted out of their sleep by the noise and news of another explosion in neighbourhoods, creating undue apprehensions, destruction, tears, sorrows and multiple deaths.

This development again adds up to a number of previously unexplained and inadequately investigated explosions that had occurred in our recent past.

These kind of developments continue to dot our landscape since the inauguration of the Buhari administration in 2015 and we feel enough, indeed, should be enough now.

We recall that about three weeks ago, there was another explosion in Lagos that claimed over seventy lives and till this moment the Federal Government has taken no concrete action to identify the factors responsible for it.

It is sad to note that another South Western State of Nigeria has been subjected to another unjustifiable explosion that inexplicably terrorized and murdered scores of people.

The PDP condemns this recent development outrightly and is forced to demand that the Federal Government must do a proper investigation of this matter, bring the facts bare for all to see and develop strategies that will forestall the reoccurrence of such developments again across our nation.

We find it curious that explosives are carelessly transported across the nation by all sorts of people, thereby continuously exposing Nigerians to untoward harm unnecessarily, this we condemn outrightly.

It is a fact that these developments takes lives and destroy properties when they occur, we again demand that Government must do an assessment of the number of lives lost and worth of properties destroyed as due compensations must be paid for the negligence responsible for these developments.

Nigerians must be safe in their homes and nation and if President Buhari cannot guarantee that, he has no business to remain in power for a minute longer. We loathe and condemn this continuing clueless management of our nation and thus declare our frustration about it.

Nigeria is not a nation at war and nothing must compromise our peace and security.
