…..We’ll work for emergence of Candidate from Ondo South —Aspirants insist
…..Stakeholders caution Aspirants ahead of PDP Primaries.
Some governorship Aspirants from Ondo South Senatorial district on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are now joining forces to stop Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), from picking the party’s ticket for the October 10, 2020 governorship election.
Jegede who was the party’s candidate during the 2016 governorship poll, is believed by many political analysts as major contender to also pick the PDP ticket for this year election.
PDP currently has 17 Aspirants vying for the position of the state governor.
SUNSHINETRUTH however learnt that to prevent Jegede from picking the ticket again, five of the aspirants from Ondo south senatorial district in the party, came together yesterday to strategize on how one of them will fly the flag of the party against whoever the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) present in the October 10 polls.
The PDP Aspirants who are leading the step for Ondo south to pick the ticket are basically from Okitipupa local government area namely; Dr. Eddy Olafeso (current National Vice Chairman (Southwest) of the PDP); Senator Boluwaji Kunlere; Engr. Ogunwa Omoniyi Oboli; Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA) and Barr. Bimpe Olatemiju.

At a meeting they held at Ode Aye yesterday, the five Okitipupa Aspirants agreed in their communiqué as follows;
“Without prejudice to the rights and privileges of other citizens of Ondo State to aspire for the office of the Governor of Ondo State, we, the following aspirants from Okitipupa Local Government; Olorogun Dr. Eddy Olafeso, Senator Boluwaji Kunlere, Engr. Ogunwa Omoniyi Oboli, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA) and Barr. Bimpe Olatemiju at a meeting held in Ode Aye resolved as follows:
“To exercise our inallienable rights to contest for the office of the Governor of Ondo State under the platform of our great party, People’s Democratic Party(PDP).
“That at the appointed time, we shall resolve amongst ourselves to produce one formidable and acceptable person to contest the party’s primary.
“The resolution is in recognition of the extreme poverty and alleination of our people from government and governance in recent times.”
The Aspirants also agreed, “that the plight of the entire people of Ondo State is a major focus to us and that we desire to bring about a responsive and responsible government that will continue to attack frontally the foundation of poverty and underdevelopment in the State.
“We appeal to our people to avoid all forms of divisive tendencies of lies, propaganda and blackmail that can undermine the fortune of the aspirants either jointly or individually in the course of the contest.
“That we resolve more than ever before to continue to give our total loyalty to our great party, the People’s Democratic Party.
“Finally, we appeal to our people to be compliant with government’s directive on social distancing, personal and environmental hygiene in other to defeat the Novel Corona Virus(COVID-19) pandemic. We pray for God’s guidance and protection on all our people in Ondo State and beyond,” they concluded.
A public affairs analyst, Mr Chris Odeyi questioned the gang-up by the Aspirants, “I am surprise the way you people are behaving, you believe too much in yourself. You are self centered, you don’t Care about others or what will they think , say or do.
“You see this state as your father estate. Though I am not a politician but I believe in the principle that says what goes around comes around, you have held on to PDP governorship candidates for four consecutive times out of five times. Kindly concede it to other senatorial districts if really you love your party, Chris said on SUNSHINETRUTH News WhatsApp platform.
Also commenting on SUNSHINETRUTH News WhatsApp Platform, a former PDP lawmaker from Ondo East constituency, Hon Cicero Akindiose advised that all governorship aspirants should follow the party’s constitution in picking candidate.
“Why all these? Are we not following the STANDARD regulations? Are we SAYING we do not believe in primary election? it is nauseating to hear this “it is our turn” refrain when there is provision for primary election.
“Sincerely, some aspirants may want an easy ride but look at the huge obstacle of incumbency. PDP must desist from the negative trend of branding some members as new or old in determining the fortunes of the party.
“It is annoying and demeaning. Those who are comfortable with staying out of power for another four years may not worry. Yet it is better to face the reality that everyone can aspire but not every aspirant can meet up with what is required to win. it is far more than fb or whatsapp postings.
“Some elders must be bold , honest, committed and courageous to ensure there is a credible primary and selection process. from my experience, incumbency is very vulnerable whenever there is a strong resolve by a even a few dogged strategists.
“Put our camp in order by organising a credible primary election. aspirants should fulfil the conditions required. let the party move up pls,” Akindiose appealed.
