It was a sorrowful day for residents of Ikare-Akoko at weekend and double tragedies as a middle-agrd man, Ayotunde Gbenga Opeyemi allegedly killed his 57year-old mother Mrs Ajimoh popularly known as Mama-Gbenga during a fisticuff at her residence in Akure and the son later ran away to Ikare-Akoko where he committed suicide.
A reliable family source at Oyinmo Area of Ikare told SUNSHINETRUTH that late Mrs Ajimo was said to have had an unresolved misunderstanding with one of her three children (Gbenga) son 3 children at Ikare Akoko before she married at Akure.
The Source said, “it was a double tragedy when a mother of 5 about 57 year old woman mr Ajimo simply called mama Gbenga a native of Oyinmo Ikare Akoko based in Akure died in a scuffle with her notorious son called Ayotunde Gbenga Opeyemi”.
According to the reliable source, “late Ajimoh had three children at Ikare Akoko before she married at Akure. one of the three children was this notorious Gbenga who killed her mother at Akure and escaped to Ikare Akoko where he stayed with his grandmother at Oyinmo quarters”.
He said, “Gbenga was said to have had a misunderstanding with his mum who was living in Akure until her untimely death, but after he allegedly killing his mum in Akure, he escaped to Ikare to stay with his grandmother”.
“When he realised he may be arrested and put to shame, he was said to have decided to commit suicide, was said to have gone to the kitchen yesterday (Friday night) and took his own life by hanging in that night when everybody in the house have slept”, the family source said.
“A neighbour who was going to toilet discovered his (Gbenga’s) dangling body and raised alarm that attracted large crowd”, he said.
Policemen in Ikare- Akoko were seen at the scene to confirm the incident, saying investigation had commenced.
However, as at the time of filing in this report, the major cause of the scuffle between the mother and the son was yet to be ascertained.
The Ondo state police Command’s Spokesman, Mr Femi Joseph confirmed the incident, adding that police was investigating the incident.
